Some Personal Stuff
- I was born in Crowborough, SE England.
- I am married to Denise Hills.
- We have one son, Kieran Alexander
- We live Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
- We have two cats, Mollie and Percy.
- When not working I try to bike a lot, and also should be kayaking and hiking.
A Little About My Past
- I went to Beacon Comprehensive School in Crowborough, East Sussex, UK
- I did my B.Sc. in Applied Geology with Physics at the University of Plymouth,
Devon, UK.
- I did my M.S. in Geophysics at the University if Alaska Fairbanks, Alaska,
USA
- I did my Ph.D at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii,
USA
- I did a postdoc at the University of Hawaii
- I spent 2.5 years as an Assistant Researcher in the Hawai'i Institute of
Geophysics and Planetology at the University of Hawai'i
- During my M.S. I interned twice with Mobil (California and Texas). I also
had a stint helping out with monitoring volcanoes for the Alaska Volcano Observstory.
- During my B.Sc. I worked as a lab and field technician for a geotechnical
site investigation company (East Grinsted, West Sussex, UK)
- Other jobs I have had include paper boy, supermarket shelf stacker, fishmonger,
and the peak of my career, dirty laundry sorter!
