Educated at the University of North Carolina. Professor of Geology, University of Alabama 1954-1994. Chairman of the Department of Geology 1969-1977, Acting Chairman 1968-1969 and 1981-1982. Received the UA National Alumni Association Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award 1985, Favorite Lecturer Award, College of Arts & Sciences 1984, College of Arts & Sciences Distinguished Teaching Fellow 1993.
