Douglas E. Jones

Outstanding faculty leader, tireless advocate for the geosciences, geologist, paleontologist and Renaissance man. Made numerous scientific contributions to Coastal Plain and Alabama geology. 1952 UA alumnus. Professor of Geology at UA 1958-1997. Geology Department Head 1966-1968; Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences 1969-1984; Dean of University Libraries 1984-1988; Acting Vice-President for Academic Affairs 1988-1990; Director of the Alabama Museum of Natural History 1984-1997. Officer and board member of various geological and governmental organizations and agencies.
